CDFP data
The data that formed the foundation for this website was
obtained from the unpublished works of Leonardo L. Co, who
compiled his checklist-in-the-making from the primary
literature and the works of Merrill, particularly his
Enumeration of Philippine Flowering Plants. However, he also
used his own data and knowledge of the Philippine flora and
incorporated information that he obtained from his colleagues.
When the current CDFP editors
started the website in 2011, they continued Co's work by
adding data from the published literature and using it to
update names, distribution information and classifications.
This process continues to this day, with almost daily edits
and additions to the checklist and the photos that are linked
to it. Online databases, such as Catalogue of Life, IPNI,
Plants of the World Online, World Checklist of Selected Plant
Families, World Ferns, and various herbarium databases, are
primarily used to identify discrepancies between the CDFP
checklist and these databases, such as names that we
overlooked or differences in classifications and reported
distribution. The editors then use the published literature to
make a decision about how to resolve such discrepancies for
CDFP.
The editors encourage visitors of
the CDFP website to use its checklist and the associated data
for biodiversity research, education, and conservation. Users
of these data are permitted to source data from the website,
but should cite CDFP as the source of these data in any
printed or online publications, including websites and
databases. The suggested citation is Pelser,
P.B., J.F. Barcelona & D.L. Nickrent (eds.). 2011
onwards.Co's Digital Flora of the Philippines.
www.philippineplants.org. This citation should be
included as a literature reference in publications, so
that the use of the CDFP resources is recorded by citation
indices. However, it is not permitted to reproduce
substantial amounts of data, such as all currently
accepted plant names for the Philippines, or a list of all
endemic species, or of all naturalized taxa, even if CDFP
is acknowledged as a data source. If users would like to
use substantial amounts of data from CDFP, they are
requested to contact the editors to ask for permission and
to discuss co-authorship for any resulting publications,
databases and other outputs.
