Notes: A native of tropical America, now pantropic in cultivation or subspontaneous. In and about towns throughout the Philippines, usually planted, but at least persisting after cultivation in abandoned areas. Naturalized.

LaFrankie (4-Jul-13): "Probably native to india, but one of the early introductions throughout tropical Asia where it naturalizes quickly". Note by P.B. Pelser (17-Jan-21): I have not seen evidence that this species is naturalized in the Philippines. Cultivated, not naturalized.
