  1. Bixa orellana L., Sp. Pl. (1753) 512; --Merr., EPFP 3 (1923) 103; --Backer, Fl. Males. ser. 1, 4 (1951) 239. A native of tropical America, now pantropic in cultivation or subspontaneous. In and about towns throughout the Philippines, usually planted, but at least persisting after cultivation in abandoned areas. Photos

  1. Cochlospermum religiosum (L.) Alston, Handb. Fl. Ceylon 6 (suppl.) (1931) 14; --Bombax religiosum L., Sp. Pl. (1753) 512. J.V. LaFrankie (4-Jul-13): "Probably native to india, but one of the early introductions throughout tropical Asia where it naturalizes quickly". Note by P.B.
